How to paint your replica in digital
Author: Tim “Variable” Jensen

Digital camouflage is all the rage these days, so why not have a digital camo gun?

Materials:
Computer and printer
Paint (Krylon Fusion Camo)
Scissors
Masking Tape
Paper towels

Step 1: Planning. Decide how big you want your pixel groups. See my example for a stencil design. Print out your stencils and cut out lots of pixel groups. Keep size in mind as really large pixels and really small ones are difficult to work with.
Step 2: Stuff paper towels into the magwell, muzzle and mask off any areas you don’t want painted.
Step 3: Give your replica a solid base coat in the color of your choosing, let dry
Step 4: Apply your stencils, tack them down with small squares of masking tape. Tack them down on all sides, integrate the squares of masking tape with the pattern. The tighter the stencil is to the surface, the better the results.
Step 5: Paint the second coat. Hold the can about 8 inches away from the surface for the right spray pattern.
--If you are doing a two tone pattern like me, stop here, let your replica dry and peel off your stencils. Otherwise leave the stencils on, apply another set of stencils and paint a third coat.

You can buy pre-made stencils online for about $20 for a set, or you can make your own. Various digital artists have published digital renditions like my sample for you to use. Use mspaint or photoshop to get the right size pixel groups and density.
